KR Editor

Sound editor and librarian for a workstation keyboard — iPad & Mac, with iPhone on stage

coming soonApp Storecoming soonMac App Store
KR Editor is a sound editor and librarian for the KORG KRONOS, on iPad and Mac — and, on iPhone, a stage mode. Plug in the USB cable and every knob you turn in the app changes the keyboard's sound right away, without cutting the note. Away from the keyboard, open your .PCG backup and sort your sounds at home. The app has no audio engine: the sound is always the KRONOS's own.Read moreShow less

All nine of the keyboard's engines on one screen, a Mixer with the Combi's 16 tracks side by side, scenes that switch without cutting the note that is ringing, a 128-slot Set List you sort with a finger and a Perform mode for the stage. Two .PCG files side by side: drag a Combi from one to the other and it brings the Programs it needs. It opens NAUTILUS packs and DX7 banks, one voice at a time. It writes to the keyboard over the cable, one sound at a time, with a copy of what was there and a check afterwards. One purchase: iPad and Mac in the same app, no subscription.

What sets it apart

01

Scenes that don't cut

Eight scenes per Combi and six per Program, with layer and split. Change scene with a chord held: what's ringing finishes in the old sound and the next note comes out in the new one. And they reach your iPad from your Mac on their own, through iCloud.

02

DX7 banks, one voice at a time

Open a DX7 bank (.syx), tap one of the 32 voices and it lands in the Program's MOD-7, in the keyboard's temporary memory: you can listen, swap it for another voice or cancel.

03

NAUTILUS in the KRONOS, already converted

Open NAUTILUS packs and copy their sounds into the KRONOS. The app does the conversion, with a preview before anything is written.

04

A Combi takes its Programs along

Two .PCG files side by side: drag a Combi from one to the other and it brings the Programs it needs, with a preview before anything is written.

05

KARMA by what you want

Each module tells you what it plays (drums, arpeggio, bass) and every knob has a player's name. Pick "I want a groove" and the app brings the module from a sound you already own.

06

A Set List made for the stage

In Perform mode: eight large slots per page, with each song's comment in view — and scenes change from a pedal or any MIDI controller.

Features

The keyboard answers as you play with it

Plug in the USB cable and every knob you turn in the app changes the keyboard's sound right away, without cutting the note. What you hear is the keyboard itself: the app has no audio engine.

All nine engines on one screen

Piano, organ, electric piano, the analog models, FM, strings and the HD-1, as knobs and drawbars. Drag the filter, envelope and EQ graphs with a finger. Effects sit on the second page, with the presets from your .KFX.Read moreShow less

Combi: the 16-track Mixer

Volume, pan, sends, channel, each track's IFX (Route IFX) and Tone Adjust, side by side. Hold a track number to copy that track, effect included, into another Combi. Pick a Program and build a Combi from it.Read moreShow less

128-slot Set List

All 128 slots in a scrolling grid. Drag a slot to reorder, open a gap in the middle of the set or close one.

Files: cleanup and backups

The app finds duplicate sounds, Combis that play a Program that's gone, and the right version in your old backups.

Write to the keyboard, with a copy and a check

Your changes go into the KRONOS memory over USB, one sound at a time, with a copy of what was there before and a check afterwards.

Works without the keyboard

Open .PCG and .KFX files straight on the device: sort your sounds, build the Set List and check everything at home. Whatever needs the keyboard says so in place, instead of showing a value the app does not know.Read moreShow less

iPhone: the stage in your hand

On iPhone, stage mode: your Set List with Perform, and your scenes, in your hand. The full editor is on iPad and Mac — in a single purchase.

FAQ

Does KR Editor make sound?

No. It is an editor and librarian: the app has no audio engine, and the sound is always the keyboard's own.

Which keyboards does it work with?

The KORG KRONOS, KRONOS 2 and KRONOS (2015), over USB. KORG NAUTILUS packs also open, and their sounds are converted for the KRONOS. KORG, KRONOS and NAUTILUS are trademarks of KORG Inc.; DX7 is a trademark of Yamaha Corporation. KR Editor is an independent app, not affiliated with or endorsed by KORG or Yamaha.

How do I connect the keyboard?

With a USB cable, on the iPad or the Mac. On the keyboard, turn on GLOBAL › MIDI › Enable Exclusive — that is what lets the app read and write the sounds.

Do I need the keyboard to use it?

To explore and sort, no: .PCG and .KFX files open straight on the device, and you can browse Program, the Combi Mixer, KARMA, the Set List and the Files screen. Whatever needs the keyboard — turning a knob and hearing it, reading its memory and writing to it — says so in place, instead of showing a value the app does not know.

How do changes reach the keyboard?

Over the cable, one sound at a time, with a copy of what was there and a check afterwards. Even so, back the keyboard up (DISK › Save All) before touching its memory.

How do the scenes work?

Eight per Combi and six per Program, with layer and split. Hold a chord and change scene: what's ringing finishes in the old sound and the next note comes out in the new one. The scenes you save reach your other device on their own through iCloud: save on the Mac, play on the iPad.

What is the Set List's Perform mode?

It is the Set List made for the stage: eight large slots per page, with each song's comment in view. Scenes change from a pedal or any MIDI controller.

Does it open NAUTILUS files and DX7 banks?

Yes. It opens NAUTILUS packs and copies their sounds into the KRONOS, already converted. It also opens a DX7 bank (.syx): tap one of the 32 voices and it lands in the Program's MOD-7, in the keyboard's temporary memory — you can listen, swap it for another voice or cancel.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes, as a stage: your Set List with Perform mode, and your scenes, in your hand. The full editor is on iPad and Mac — in a single purchase.

Does the app collect data or need the internet?

It collects nothing: no account, no analytics and no ads. The scenes you save may reach your other device through iCloud — your own, in a private space for the app; RSJB does not receive or see that data. Backups and the keyboard log stay on the device.

Which languages is it in?

Portuguese, English and Spanish.

Which devices does it run on?

iPad and Mac (native), in one purchase with no subscription, and iPhone as a stage — coming soon to the App Store.

When does it launch?

Coming soon to the stores. Follow @rsjb_app for the launch announcement.
